The
mission of the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force
is to provide comprehensive investigative services
to all participating member agencies. These services
include, but are not limited to, major drug related
violent crimes including homicides, non-parental
kidnappings, and other exceptionally heinous crimes
when requested
to do so by the Police Chief of the member agency
with the approval of the Board of Directors. The
SSMCTF,
under the Command of the Cook County Sheriff's Police
Department and the Illinois State Police has the
responsibility of supervising 54 South Suburban Police
Departments
who have assigned approximately 150 investigators.
These members investigate real or suspected violent
crimes which necessitate a substantial commitment
of resources for a prolonged period of time, or which
require the application of complex or unusual investigative
techniques and expertise.
