The
Village of Worth Haunt Against
Hunger is an annual
event where residents, adults and children alike, band
together for a good cause and a hauntingly good time.
The goal is to gather food and promote the needs of
our
local Food Pantry located at our own United Methodist
Church. This is not a door-to-door food drive. Participants
collect food prior and bring it to the event.
The event is organized by Officer Anthony Ritz of the
Worth Police Department and Webmaster for the Village
of Worth. Village Clerk
Bonnie
Price, Village Trustee
Colleen McElroy, Pastor
Karen Hundrieser and of
the
United Methodist Church and "Captain" Mike
McElroy
of the Village's Life Safety Committee also participated
in
the event and are pictured to the left.
Food was also
donated by the Fraternal Order of Police
Worth Lodge
#143.
This year's event was visited by Thom Kramer, the
originator of Chicagoland's Haunts Against Hunger
and Robert Miller and his character "The
Reaper!"
We would also like to make a special thanks to
Lt. Martin Knolmayer and Ofc. Robert Petersen for
their assistance in the success of this project.
Key to this event is our Village Home Owners who
spice up our lives by decorating
their homes and
front yards. This event
capitalizes on our
resident's
creativity. Home Owners become active
characters
in our event by dressing up in horrifically
frightening
costumes
and distributing candy and other
novelties
to our walking parade of evil participants.
This year's event occurred on Sunday October
24th. To
donate food post event please contact our food pantry
or
email Officer Anthony Ritz to arrange a pick up.
Also, to
participate in next year's event,
please email
Officer
Anthony Ritz with your information. We are looking
for
haunted homes to visit, characters to march with
our
neighborhood kids and parents, and antique vehicles
and hearses to guide our way. A project meeting will
be scheduled in the Summer of 2011.
